Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace

Cardinal Wuerl to Celebrate Mass for Peace and Justice on September 7
A day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria, the Middle East and throughout the world

Recently, Pope Francis called on Catholics and those throughout the world to join in a day of prayer and fasting for peace in Syria, in the Middle East, and throughout the world. The Holy Father noted that this initiative comes out of the need to address the violent challenges to peace, to human solidarity and to freedom, particularly religious freedom.

In communion with the pope’s request, Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington will be the principal celebrant and homilist at a Mass for Peace and Justice at the Basilica of the National Shine of the Immaculate Conception. Archbishop Carlo Maria ViganĂ², Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, will represent Pope Francis and offer words of support for this effort. Monsignor Ronny Jenkins, the General Secretary for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops will also be present.
